A marketing consultant gathers information about the products, competitors, pricing, and customers. They analyze their customers spending habits, needs, preferences and desires to learn more about potential markets and innovate and develop new products. Many use surveys to find out this information.

A marketing consultant can greatly increase the business and revenue that a company can generate and many people employ them full-time while others simply hire one as a consultant. They prepare their reports into graphical data that can be easily understood as well as written text to create an accurate picture of the companies marketing strategy and potential.

A marketing consultant also gathers information about customer and employee satisfaction. They can forecast market trends and analyze collected data. Most require a four year degree in a business related area although most information is gained through work experience. Every company has a very different strategy for marketing making it a difficult subject to pinpoint.
