Internet marketing FAQs
What are meta tags?
Meta tags are HTML codes that are inserted into the header on a web page, after the title tag. They take a variety of forms and serve a variety of purposes, but in the context of search engine optimization when people refer to meta tags, they are usually referring to the meta description tag and the meta keywords tag. This is what search engines look up on a site when someone is searching for a term.
What is search engine optimization (SEO)?
SEO is a process of building up searchable terms and good content for a website so that it appears high in search rankings. It is the process of naturally guiding customers to a certain website with links, articles, descriptions and similar content.
What is hidden text? And will it boost my ranking?
Hidden text is sometimes put into the HTML so that a the web bots will think that the site has a lot of good content. The text is usually a jumble of keywords that cannot be seen by the user but are recognized by the search engine. It is sometimes called search spam because it is unusable by anyone but the search engines. It will boost your website rating temporarily until the search engine realizes it is spam and permanently bans the site from the search engine. Not a good risk to take and I do not recommend it at all.
What is a web bot, or spider?
A spider is a piece of software that crawls from link to link gathering information to put into search results. The more links that are connecting to a site will improve its search ability and as a result its ranking as well. If a site has no links it can be submitted to a search engine to allow their spider to collect and sort the content.
